Last week, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia CBE issued a final warning to all those customers who didn’t return the money that they took as a result of illegal transactions during a technical glitch. After that, the CBE bank shared a list of all those customers who didn’t return the money and threatened to release their pictures in the media and file a police case against them.
In the last update, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia CBE issued a statement and stated that many customers contacted them. Customers asked the bank that they did not have the cash that they took illegally because they had transferred the money to betting institutes.
Then the CBE bank decided to issue an application form and asked all the customers who had transferred money to betting institutes. The bank told them to visit their branches and fill out the application form.
Today, the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia CBE extended the deadline for 3 more days. The account holders have been told to return the money till Wednesday. The bank announced that they had recovered 86% of the lost money. The total amount was $14M which means they have recovered more than $12M.
The bank states that people are returning the money to the bank but some requested an extension in deadline for return of money. That is why CBE decided to give 3 more days to the customers.
