TPLF spox meets Yiakl Eritrean opposition group

Spokesperson of Tigray People’s Liberation Front, Berhane Gebre Christos, has met with some members of an Eritrean opposition group based abroad. Global Yiakl is an Eritrean Opposition group of Eritrean diaspora, struggling against Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki’s decades-long rule.

The TPLF spox has held a meeting with Global Yiakl, confirmed by Global Yiakl in its posts shared on social media platforms. According to the statement released, Global Yiakl and TPLF decided to jointly work against oppression. TPLF has not issued any official statement in this regard so far.

Since Eritrean military intervention in Tigray in November 2020, TPLF has been openly calling for the removal of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. Eritrea provided military support to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmad who launched a military offensive in the Tigray region of Ethiopia last year. Fighting is still going on between Ethiopian Federal Forces and Tigray Regional Forces in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
