Tigray forces are claiming to have taken control of strategic places in the North Shewa Zone of the Amhara region. Tigray forces and Oromo Liberation Army fighters are trying to advance towards the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa through the north Shewa zone of the Amhara region.

Tigray Central Command said in a statement last night that Tigray forces had captured Degolo and Mehal Meda towns. Degolo is situated in the South Wollo zone and it is a key place on Were Ilu front. Mehal Meda is the administrative center of Menz Gera Midir woreda of the North Shewa zone. From Mehal Meda, Tigray forces are advancing towards Merhabete woreda which is on the Amhara-Oromia border.

By taking towns in North Shewa Amhara, TDF has partially secured its control of the Oromia special zone Amhara region. Tigray forces are in control of major towns in Oromia special zone Amhara.

The capture of Degolo and Mehal Meda will lead to increased pressure upon Amhara militias which have been seen heading from Gojjam and Gonder to fight in North Shewa and Oromia Special Zone.
