Somalia expelled the Ethiopian diplomat. Somalia has taken a strong stand for its sovereignty by declaring Mr. Ali Mohamed Adan, Counselor II at the Ethiopian Embassy in Somalia, persona non grata. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced this due to Ali Mohamed Adan’s activities violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The Ministry of Somalia stated that Ethiopian diplomat Ali Mohamed Adan’s actions conflicted with his diplomatic role. They cited specific breaches of Articles 41 and 42 of the Vienna Convention. These articles require diplomats to respect the laws of their host country and avoid interference in its internal affairs. As a result, Somalia ordered Ali Mohamed Adan to leave the country within 72 hours.
This decision underscores Somalia’s commitment to international diplomatic protocols. By declaring Ali Mohamed Adan persona non grata, Somalia sends a clear message: it will protect its national interests and uphold its sovereignty. This action reflects a broader effort to ensure foreign diplomats adhere to local laws and customs.
Somalia faces many challenges in asserting its authority. The country has dealt with conflicts and external pressures for years. By taking this decisive action, Somalia reaffirms its control over diplomatic matters.
