TPLF Leaders Getachew Reda & Debretsion Gebremichael Meet

Rival TPLF leaders have held an expected meeting. Getachew Reda and Debretsion Gebremichael reportedly met in Addis Ababa.

Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), Tigray’s largest and ruling political party, is faced with the worst internal divisions. The party is virtually split in two. One faction is led by chairman Debretsion Gebremichael. Tigray President Getachew Reda is leading the rival faction.

TPLF Debretsion group has been demanding the removal of Getachew Reda. Getachew Reda, on the other hand, refused to step down. In his statements, he vowed to take legal action on Debretsion group people.

Tigray military and Federal Government have been trying to mediate between the rival TPLF groups but no congress could be made.

Today, Getachew Reda the Tigray Interim President, through social media, shared his picture with Debretsion Gebremichael with a Tigrayan businessman sitting in the middle. It seems that the two rival TPLF leaders met. They were hosted by the Tigrayan businessman whose name is Sabawi Desalegn. Sabawi is based in Addis Ababa. He has connections with Tigray’s ruling elite.

Getachew Reda, in his social media message, thanked Tigrayans who have been requesting TPLF leaders to solve their issues internally.
