The Ministry of Trade and Regional Cooperation shared the revenue that Ethiopia earned from agricultural exports in the current fiscal year. Ethiopia earned over 156 million dollars from grains and oilseeds in the first four months of the current fiscal year. Moreover, Ethiopia will host the 13th International Grains and Oilseeds Conference in Addis Ababa from November 19 to 20, 2024.
Minister of State for Trade and Regional Relations Yasmin Wohabrebbi noted that Ethiopia has not received the foreign currency it deserves despite its production capacity. However, this year’s earnings show improvement. The breakdown reveals 66 million dollars from oilseeds and 90 million dollars from pulses. This performance achieved over 95% of the planned production targets for exports.
Last fiscal year, Ethiopia exported about 6.3 million quintals of cereals and oilseeds, generating approximately 675 million dollars. Ethiopia believes that this year’s early successes stem from ongoing macroeconomic reforms that aim to enhance exports earnings and promote Ethiopia’s global agricultural potential.
The upcoming conference will attract participants from 22 to 25 countries. Over 110 registrants have already confirmed their attendance. More than 430 Ethiopian exporters, producers, researchers, and other stakeholders are expected to join. This event offers a crucial opportunity for Ethiopia to showcase its agricultural capabilities and build international partnerships.
The participation of international buyers and stakeholders will greatly benefit Ethiopia’s economy and tourism sector. Local producers can gain insights into global market demands by showcasing their agricultural strengths. This knowledge will help them meet competitive requirements effectively.
