Ethiopia has reached a significant milestone in its coffee export sector. In October, the country earned over 155 million dollars from coffee exports. This achievement reflects a solid upward trend in the industry.
The Coffee and Tea Authority of Ethiopia reported that coffee exports in October 2024 generated 155.53 million dollars from 35,171 tons of coffee. The figures indicate a notable increase in both volume and revenue compared to the same month last year.
In the first four months of the current budget year, Ethiopia reported total coffee export revenues of 674.55 million dollars. This amount came from exporting 150,346.57 tons of coffee. Compared to the same period last year, this marks an increase of 226.89 million dollars in revenue.
The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority’s announcement paints a positive picture for the coffee sector. As Ethiopia continues to improve its production techniques and expand its market reach, stakeholders remain optimistic about sustaining this growth trend. Increased revenue will likely lead to more agricultural technology and infrastructure investments, boosting quality and yield.
Last week, the head of the regional agriculture office shared that the productivity of the Ethiopian coffee industry is expected to rise from 7.4 quintals per hectare to 8.8 quintals per hectare this year. Farmers cultivate coffee on over 229,000 hectares of land in the region.
