Turkey has offered to mediate Ethiopia’s Tigray conflict. In a statement a few hours ago, the Turkish Foreign Ministry called for a ceasefire in Ethiopia. It urged warring factions to start a dialogue and offered its support for the dialogue. According to some news sources, Turkey sold defense equipment, worth 51$ million to Ethiopia in August 2021. Tigray activists have been accusing Turkey since then of backing Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmad’s government. Ethiopian and Tigray governments have not so far responded to the Turkish offer of mediation. In another development, Twitter has disabled all trends in Ethiopia. Twitter in a statement said that potentially harmful content could be shared through these trends.
