In a new message, Shimelis Abdisa, the President of Oromia Regional State, talked about Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital city. He said some things that made people pay attention.
Shimelis talked about how Oromos, one of Ethiopia’s ethnic groups, faced problems in Addis Ababa. Moreover, he mentioned that Oromos were forced to leave the city in the past, and those who stayed felt like they did not belong. He believes it’s time to make things right and bring back those who were pushed out.
Moreover, the government is working on different Addis Ababa projects, like the Oromia Police Commission, Oromia Supreme Court, OBN Media Complex, Oromo Art Training Center, Oromo Traditional Food Preparation and Shopping Center. Shimelis hopes these projects will help Oromos feel home in the city again.
His message has sparked discussions about who owns and controls Addis Ababa. While some agree with Shimelis, others have different opinions. It’s an important topic that needs more discussion and understanding among Ethiopians.
Addis Ababa’s status is disputed between Oromos and Amharas. OLA (Oromo Liberation Army) believes that Addis Ababa is a part of Oromia and that Oromos has the right to control it. Amharas believe one region can’t control Addis Ababa because it’s a federal capital belonging to all Ethiopians.
