Yonas Niguse from Alamino Special Secondary School achieved the highest score in the 12th grade national exam of Ethiopia. The exam in Tigray had a total score of 700. Yonas Niguse scored 675 out of 700, setting a new record in Ethiopia. This was the highest score ever recorded for a 700-point national exam.
Another Alamino student, Helen Berhe, scored 662. Alamino school had other high-scoring students as well.
Haile Minas boarding school in Debre Birhan, Amhara region, had a 100% pass rate. The school’s first graduating class of 33 students (20 females and 13 males) took the 12th grade national exam in 2016.
Saron Seyoum scored 564, the highest mark in the boarding school.
Moreover, Oromia Development Association Special Boarding School announced a 100% pass rate for their 12th graders in 2016 exams.
Although only 5.4% of students obtained the required passing score of 50%. Last year, nearly 3% of students obtained pass marks. Out of 684,405 students who took the examination this year, only 36,409 got the required pass marks.
