Safaricom Ethiopia Gains Record Number of Customers

Safaricom Ethiopia has reported that 4.6 million active customers have used Safaricom network in the first quarter of the year. The number of active customers who have used Safaricom network for 30 consecutive days is 3.4 million. The customers who spent 90 days or 30 days without using it are not included in the active user list.

The telecom giant gained high number of of customers after it started its services in Tigray region. In June, it started providing regular telecommunication services in the Tigray Region. In this first phase, Safaricom Ethiopia is setting up its modern fourth-generation (4G) network in sixteen cities across the Tigray region. This 4G network is designed to provide excellent data services for the internet, streaming, and other online activities.

The number of customers who have used Safaricom Ethiopia internet service in the last 30 days is 2.4 million. According to a report, one Safaricom customer uses an average of 6.5 GB internet per month.

Safaricom served 3,500 customers after it recently launched a system to pay electricity bills with Mpesa. 13,000 payments have been made.

The company recently announced that it earned more than 2 billion Kenyan shillings (1.6 billion birr), the largest share of which came from internet service i.e. 78%.
