On Tuesday, 13 August 2024, a major power outage struck several cities in eastern Ethiopia, cutting electricity to Diredawa, Harar, Jigjiga and other areas.
The power outage in eastern Ethiopia resulted from a failure in the 132 KV high-voltage transmission line supplying the region. The state electricity provider announced the outage.
The Ethiopian electric utility is working to repair the fault in the transmission line. They asked citizens in the impacted cities to remain patient until they restore normal service, though no timeline was provided.
Fixing a major transmission line is an urgent priority for the Ethiopian electric utility. They hope to resolve the technical issue quickly.
