The number of patients treated by Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital per day has doubled in one year. The hospital, situated in Addis Ababa the capital city, is one of the oldest institutions treating mental health issues.
On Wednesday, the 239-bed Emmanuel Mental Specialized Hospital announced that it was handling 600 patients a day when it presented its 2024-2025 budget 12-month plan implementation.
The hospital plans to provide outpatient treatment to 135 thousand patients and accommodate more than 114 thousand patients.
Director of Communication and Public Relations, Mr. Abuyu Nealem, says, that last year the average length of stay for a patient in a bed was 36 days, and this year it was reduced to 35 days. Also, the hospital was able to provide services to 3 thousand 931 people seeking emergency treatment.
The number of mental health treatment seekers at the hospital is increasing every day. A year ago, 30 new mental health seekers were coming to the hospital every day, and now this number has more than doubled, including 90 new patients with mental health problems visiting the hospital every day.
