Ethiopia is preparing to sell electricity to South Sudan and Tanzania. The Minister of Water and Energy disclosed that yesterday.
Habtamu Etefa, the Federal Minister, said Ethiopia is preparing to sell electricity to South Sudan and Tanzania.
Three other African countries are buying electricity from Ethiopia. Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti have been buying electricity from Ethiopia for years. Ethiopia is expected to supply electricity to Tanzania through Kenya which recently completed the 400 kilowatt power transmission line that will connect Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.
A meeting of East Africa Power Pool (EAPP) has been ongoing in Mombasa Kenya since yesterday. Ethiopian representative is discussing with counterparts from Tanzania and Kenya to finalize the power deal. EAPP was formed by 11 countries in East Africa to interconnect their electricity grids. Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Libya, Djibouti and Uganda are members of EAPP.
