Ethiopia Announces 12th Grade National Exam Cut-Off Scores

Spread the love

The Ministry of Education of Ethiopia made an important announcement regarding the 12th grade national exam cut-off scores. This announcement outlined the cut-off scores for the 12th grade national exam from the 2016 academic year. It specifically affects students who want to join the remedial program at government universities.

The Ministry observed that many students scored below 50% on the national exam. This trend could lead to social, psychological, and economic challenges for the education system and society. To address these issues, remedial programs will be introduced for selected subjects. Students who pass a standardized test will have the chance to continue their education in regular programs.

Clear entry requirements have been established to ensure fair access to these programs. These requirements are based on the admission capacities of government universities in natural and social sciences for the 2017 academic year. Students who score below 50% but meet specific criteria can qualify for the remedial program.

Key Criteria

1. Students must have taken at least 31% of available subjects in both private and public institutions.

2. For those entering government-funded institutions, specific cut-off scores apply:

  • Male students in natural and social sciences:
    •      Total Score: 600
    •      Minimum Required Score: 204
  • Female students in natural and social sciences:
    •      Total Score: 600
    •      Minimum Required Score: 192
  • Male students from developing regions in natural and social sciences:
    •      Total Score: 600
    •      Minimum Required Score: 192
  • Female students from developing regions in natural and social sciences:
    •      Total Score: 600
    •      Minimum Required Score: 186
  • Blind male students in social sciences:
    •      Total Score: 500
    •      Minimum Required Score: 160
  • Blind female students in social sciences:
    •      Total Score: 500
    •      Minimum Required Score: 155
  • Male students in natural sciences from preparatory programs:
    •      Total Score: 700
    •      Minimum Required Score: 238
  • Female students in natural sciences from preparatory programs:
