UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has contacted Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmad and Tigray President Debretsion Gebremichael by phone. According to UN spokesperson, Antonio Guterres spoke to Abiy Ahmad and Debretsion Gebremichael in the backdrop of mediation efforts underway to resolve Ethiopia’s Tigray conflict.
African Union mediator, Olusegun Obasanjo, is in Ethiopia where he has met with heads of all warring parties in the Ethiopian conflict. In his telephonic conversation, Guterres also pressed for a peaceful solution to the Tigray conflict.
This is the 1st time that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has contacted Tigray leadership.
