Addis Ababa University has closed its Tigrinya language and philosophy classes. The decision has been made due to the shortage of interested students.
Addis Ababa University’s Department of Tigrinya Language and Literature, was established 18 years ago.
“The main reason why Tigrinya course lost students is known. It is because of the war, ” said the head of the education department Mr. Hadgu Teka. The Department of Tigrinya Language, Literature and Folklore last accepted new students 5 years ago.
Same is the case with Philosophy classes. The head of Philosophy department, Dr. Fasil Merawi, says that the Department of Philosophy did not accept new students in the first degree program for the last five years.
