Addis Ababa residence ID will be given to citizens who bring letters from the regions after October 10, 2024. It has been announced by Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residence Service Agency.
The Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency said that citizens who come with letters from the regions will be strictly checked for the validity of their proofs and will be given IDs.
It has been a year since the service was discontinued and more than 47,000 citizens have registered and are waiting to receive ID services. Around 40 percent of those registered are from Amhara region, 35 percent from Oromia and 25 percent from other regions.
Currently, Addis Ababa resident ID is being issued to those citizens who have sufficient reasons to provide reason for staying in the capital city. The reasons include education opportunities, job transfer, health problem etc. The agency has provided various services to a total of 2.5 million citizens this year, according to the head of the agency.
