Taye Atske Selassie has been appointed as the new Ethiopian President. Taye was working as foreign minister.
A joint session of the two Ethiopian houses of parliament was held today. According to the Ethiopian constitution, a candidate to be elected as the President must secure two third of votes at a joint session of the two houses of parliament.
Taye Atske Selassie is replacing Sahle Work Zewde who was elected in October 2018 as the President. President’s term in Ethiopia is six years.
Taye has worked in top positions in Ethiopia. He worked as the Ethiopian representative at the UN. In February this year, he replaced Demeke Mekonnen and since then he has been serving as foreign minister.
