Poultry Traders Start Leaving Ethiopian Market

Poultry Traders are exiting the Ethiopian market in large numbers. Reportedly, due to the increase in VAT on chicken feed and other reasons, the producers engaged in the poultry sector are facing losses and they are leaving the market.

The increase in VAT on chicken feed has led to the increase in the cost of feed and the price of eggs in the market.

Znaw Sunneh, the manager of the Ethiopian Poultry Breeders and Processors Association, says that in the past, the production of eggs and poultry was high in the market, but now, especially after the imposition of VAT on chicken feed, producers have been severely tested.

Another reason for the increase in the price of chicken feed is the lack of dollars to import feed processing inputs. Reportedly, there is a shortage of corn, which is one of the resources used by the poultry industry. Security problem in different areas is further exacerbating the situation, making it difficult for traders to deliver their products.
