The Ministry of Labor and Skills has signed an agreement with the Ethiopian Statistics Service to create more than 40,000 jobs for citizens.

The agreement will enable the Ethiopian Statistics Service to employ professionals who will participate in the agricultural sample survey that the Ministry of Labor and Skills will conduct across the country.

Mrs. Muferihat Kamil, the Minister of Labor and Skills, stated during the signing ceremony that the agricultural sample survey will measure the results of rural and urban agricultural activities, as well as the profitability of the Lemat initiative. She emphasized the importance of this work for the country’s reform efforts.

The agreement will also enable the recruitment and employment of citizens who will collect data through the Ethiopian Labor Market Information System (ELMIS), which has been established after 22 years. This will allow the recruitment process to start faster.

Moreover, the ELMIS aims to update the job market, identify the types of skills needed, and create many jobs fairly for citizens. The Ethiopian Statistics Service’s dedication to utilizing this system will serve as an example for other organizations.

Dr. Beker Shale, the Director General of the Ethiopian Statistics Service, stated that the ELMIS is implemented throughout the country and can collect data efficiently, making it the best choice for the agricultural sample survey conducted by the Statistics Service.

The Minister informed that youth with bachelor’s degrees from all over Ethiopia who want to participate in data collection can go to job offices, provide their biometric information, register, and secure employment.
