The Ethiopian Electricity Service has announced that it will replace automated pre-paid meters from January. The new meters will replace the card-based prepaid meters that were in use earlier.
In the first round of implementation, 10,000 meters will be replaced, and in the second round, 15,000 meters will be replaced. It has been said that customers can use the service by purchasing electricity through Telebirr or mobile banking.
The project of changing the meters will be carried out on single phase meters which use low energy and are used for domestic use and three phase meters which are used for small industries.
