The World Bank has announced significant financial support for the ongoing economic reform efforts of Ethiopia, totaling $15.5 billion over the next three years. This includes providing $7 billion in direct support and an additional $8.5 billion in the next three years.
Furthermore, the World Bank will give Ethiopia a $1 billion direct grant, $500 million to extend debt payment, $320 million through the International Investment Cooperation (IFC), and $1.15 billion from a multilateral investment agency.
Additionally, the World Bank will provide $6 billion in budget subsidies over the next three years and increase investment by $2.1 billion through the International Financial Cooperation. In total, the World Bank will give Ethiopia $16.6 billion in the next three years, in addition to the $7 billion it provides now.
Separately, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a $3.4 billion loan for Ethiopia. This four-year loan program, valued at SDR 2.556 billion (approximately 850% of Ethiopia’s quota), aims to provide immediate financial support and long-term stability for the country’s economy.
