Clean Ethiopia Digital Telethon Raises More than 154 Million Birr

Ethiopian government raised more than 154 million in Clean Ethiopia Digital Telethon on Sunday. More than forty thousand people participated in the digital telethon from all over the world. The Clean Ethiopia campaign has been launched to build public toilets across the country.

The Telethon had set a target of 50 million birr but it raised154 million 500 thousand birr. Commercial Bank of Ethiopia deposited 23 million birr. Midroc investment group donated 64 million birr. Ethiopian construction works corporation donated 5 million birr. Ethiopians living in Abu Dhabi pledged more than 65 thousand dirhams. A total of 154 million 500 thousand birr were raised.

The press secretariat officer of the prime minister’s office Bilene Seyoum gave a briefing about the the digital telethon. 40,533 people participated in the 10 hour long telethon.

On April 26th, the Prime Minister unveiled plans to construct modern, hygienic, and dignified public restroom facilities, with a strong emphasis on community involvement in the construction process. The ‘Clean Ethiopia’ initiative includes a fundraising component under the theme ‘Clean Cities – Healthy Lives.’

The primary objective is to solicit both monetary and in-kind contributions from the public to fund the construction of these much-needed public sanitation facilities across the country. This campaign aims to mobilize support from all segments of the Ethiopian society, both within the country and in the global diaspora, as well as the international community residing in Addis Ababa.
