The owner of Awash Wine has announced that he has left the market.
Established in 1936, Awash has been the leading wine producer in Ethiopia. Awash produces and sells wines to hotels, restaurants, bars and supermarkets. Its brands such as Awash, Gouder, Axumit and Kemila are household names in Ethiopia. The company has fully integrated operations, with two wineries in Addis Ababa and a 520 hectare farm outside Addis Ababa.
In July 2013, a consortium led by 8 Miles acquired a 100% interest in Awash Wine Share Company from the Ethiopian Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency.
Eight Miles recently announced on its website that it has completely sold Awash Wine and left Ethiopia. It did not say how much it sold the factory for. Although there is no word on who bought it, it only disclosed that a company called Verdant was the consultant during the sale process.
