Addis Ababa government is considering ban on Bajaj transport service. A discussion was held focusing on the operation, the service delivery and the control of three and four wheeled vehicles.
Since there is a wide demand for Bajaj transport services especially in condominiums, it has been suggested that the service should continue until the demand in these areas is replaced with other options.
Bajaj drivers will have to have Addis Ababa ID and vehicle registration plate until complete ban is put in place.
Officials from transport, traffic, police and other departments participated in the discussion. According to security officials, the number of bajaj drivers coming from different areas into Addis Ababa has been a security issue. Most of the participants agreed that Bajaj transport does not fit the modern idea of the city so the service should be cut off completely.
