Drivers Demand Action Amid Fuel Shortages in Ethiopia

Spread the love

The fuel shortages in Ethiopia are impacting daily life, especially in Addis Ababa. Drivers struggle to find fuel, which delays their ability to work. The Director General of the Petroleum and Energy Authority announced that the government of Ethiopia will tackle these man-made fuel shortages through legal measures.

Many drivers report that petrol stations claim they have no fuel, even as prices rise. This situation has prompted calls for stronger government oversight. The director explained that delays at petrol terminals and interruptions in supply routes, mainly through Sudan, contribute to the shortages.

The government recently announced a price increase every three months. Some petrol stations have taken advantage of this by storing the fuel. While fuel tankers usually arrive within 2 to 4 days, recent delays have stretched to 7 to 14 days. This has caused significant disruptions for drivers who depend on timely fuel access.

Day after yesterday, Ethiopia increased the fuel prices. You can visit and check the updated fuel prices.

In response, the government plans to penalize those who store the fuel or engage in other unfair practices. The director assured the public that authorities would identify and punish those manipulating fuel supplies for profit.
