Tigray Interim Govt today categorically rejected the claims made by the Rapid Support Forces RSF. On Saturday, RSF claimed that TPLF fighters were fighting alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces SAF against the RSF in Sudan. Since April last year, Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and RSF have been involved in a deadly civil war.
Tigray interim govt (TIR) in its statement denied and condemned RSF’s “baseless” claims. TIR accused RSF saying that the statement was” apparently designed to shore up the international support for its campaign against the SAF by internationalizing the tragic civil war”.
Interestingly RSF claimed that it had evidence of TPLF’s involvement in the Sudan civil war. It remains to be seen if Rapid Support Forces will publish this evidence or not.
Today’s statement by the Tigray Interim govt urges the Sudanese warring parties ” to refrain from inflammatory statements that contribute to further escalation and come to the negotiating table”.
More than 50,000 Tigrayans crossed into Sudan from Ethiopia during the two year long war in northern Ethiopia between Tigray regional forces and Ethiopian federal and regional forces supported by Eritrean military. The war ended in November 2022. Thousands of Ethiopian refugees are still in Sudan. Interestingly thousands of Ethiopians and Sudanese entered Ethiopia since April last year after war broke out between SAF and RSF.
