“Made in Ethiopia” (ETHIOPIA TAMRIT) is a national program launched in 2022 by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed with a view to creating a competitive manufacturing industry by addressing the challenges facing the sector in a sustainable, integrated, and comprehensive manner. It promotes Ethiopian products to the global market which will help to widen the market destinations of Ethiopian products in addition to the various discussion forums on the margins of the expo.
The 3rd Ethiopia Tamrit Expo was held from May 9 to May 13 at Millenium Hall in Addis Ababa. PM Abiy Ahmed launched the expo while Deputy PM Temesgen Tiruneh attended the concluding ceremony.
More than 210 Ethiopian companies presented their products at the expo. Transactions worth more than 3 billion birr were made. Seven countries agreed to buy Ethiopian products and 74 market connections were made at the Expo.
Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed, Deputy PM Temesgen Tiruneh and Minister of Industry Melaku Alebel, in their speeches, urged the development and use of domestic products. Local manufactures were awarded with medals.
PM Abiy Ahmed’s government is working to liberalize the economy. Real Estate, Trade, Import, Export and Whole Sale sectors are being opened to foreign investors. Ethiopian domestic businesses will learn from new technologies likely to be introduced by foreign investors. At the same time, it seems that domestic businesses will be faced with a challenge to compete with foreign investors.
