The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has recently taken a strong stance against Fly Dubai for their inaccurate representation of destinations related to Somalia. The SCAA has discovered that Fly Dubai’s official website, ticket booking platform, and mobile application are failing to properly acknowledge Somalia’s sovereignty when listing destinations.
This issue has prompted the SCAA to issue a formal letter to Fly Dubai, outlining the seriousness of the violations and the necessary corrective actions that must be taken immediately.
The SCAA has directed Fly Dubai to accurately represent all destinations to and from Somalia on their platforms. This includes clearly stating the name of the destination along with “Somalia” on their website and mobile app used for ticketing and booking services. The deadline for these corrections is set for August 24, 2024.
Failure to comply with these directives from the SCAA will result in severe consequences for Fly Dubai. The authority has stated that they will immediately revoke Fly Dubai’s operating permit within Somalia if the issues are not addressed before the given date. This decision will be enforced without any further notice.
Moreover, Somalia also addressed significant concerns regarding violations of Somalia’s sovereignty in relation to the flight routes operated by Ethiopian Airlines. The SCAA gave Ethiopian Airlines a deadline: if they do not fix the issues by August 23, 2024, the SCAA will suspend all Ethiopian Airlines flights to Somalia.
