Oromia Shares the Results of 2016 Budget Year

In 2016 budget year, the Oromia region successfully collected 123.15 billion birr, which helped create job opportunities for 3.7 million residents.

During the 6th year of Chefe administration of Oromia, President Shimelis Abdisa outlined the 2016 budget results. He reported that the region generated 87.6 billion birr from regular income, 22.4 billion birr from municipal sources, and 13.06 billion birr from other revenue streams.

The agricultural sector saw significant achievements, particularly in irrigation wheat production. Farmers cultivated 2.8 million hectares, resulting in a harvest of 102.2 million quintals. Additionally, rice production for the 2015/16 year reached an impressive 32 million quintals.

As part of the green footprint initiative, the region planted 5.4 billion seedlings, with 1.4 billion trees already established this year.

Officials approved 3,757 projects, requiring an investment of 148 billion birr, which are projected to create jobs for 599,000 people.

The government and development organizations completed 9,654 drinking water projects, ensuring that 2 million citizens now have access to clean drinking water. In education, communities played a vital role in building 4,383 Buure Boru schools, raising the total number of schools to 15,225. The government also enhanced 6,011 primary schools, benefiting 6.9 million students.

In the health sector, authorities completed 421 projects, providing treatment to 79 million citizens for various health issues, including 673,000 cases of sleeping sickness. This year, 2.8 million citizens reported 942 temporary job opportunities, contributing to a total of 3.7 million job opportunities created.
