M-PESA, a popular mobile money service in Africa, has teamed up with the Ethiopian Electric Utility EEU to provide a convenient payment option for EEU’s post-paid electricity customers.

Through this partnership, EEU customers can now use their M-PESA accounts to pay their monthly electricity bills directly, without having to visit an Ethiopian Electric Utility office or use other payment methods.

Moreover, EEU is offering a 10% cashback to customers who pay their first five electricity bills using M-PESA. The partnership between M-PESA and EEU is expected to improve the overall customer experience for EEU post-paid customers, while also contributing to the growth of digital financial services in the country.

Wim Vanhelleputte, CEO of Safaricom Ethiopia, said,  “We are excited to partner with Ethiopian Electric Utility to bring the convenience of M-PESA to their postpaid customers. This agreement aligns with our mission to empower individuals and businesses through innovative financial services.”

CEO of Ethiopian Electric Utility (EEU), Shiferaw Telila, stated during the signing ceremony, “The integration of M-PESA into our post-paid payments platform provides our post-paid customers an additional payment mechanism on top of the modern payment options we already have. That makes it easier for our post-paid customers to pay their bills on time, without the need for physical visits to payment centers, providing us with additional capacity to realize our customer-centric goals. Therefore, I want to thank M-PESA Safaricom on behalf of EEU and our esteemed customers.”
