Thirty-six of the 330 heavy trucks imported by Lemi National Cement Factory have arrived on site. The factory reports that these trucks transport materials needed for cement production from the manufacturing plant to storage.
The minerals come from the Jema River valley, which presents environmental challenges. To address this, the factory invested heavily in modern trucks.
Lemi National Cement Plant can produce 150,000 quintals of cement per day. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the factory on September 28, 2024. In his speech, he stated that “this mega project reflects our government’s commitment to building efficiently, swiftly, and sustainably.”
600 million dollars have been spent to build this largest cement factory in Ethiopia.
Lemi National Cement Factory has a production capacity of 150,000 quintals per day. It took two years to build it. The cement factory was built in the Amhara region, 130 km away from Addis Ababa. It is a joint venture between Hong Kong-based Western International Holdings and the Ethiopian industrial company East Africa Holding.
