Around 200 Ethiopian civil society organizations in Ethiopia have been unable to submit their work reports due to a lack of funding. These organizations operate in various sectors across Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian government plans to transfer the properties and legal identities of these civil society organizations, which have been deprived of their ability to function, to other institutions that are currently operational.
Nigusu Legese (Dr.), the President of the Council of Civil Society Organizations, has stated that these organizations were forced to shut down because they could not cover their expenses and did not submit the required reports. He mentioned that if they were to receive funding, they would be able to resume their activities.
The report indicates that these civil society organizations have been facing significant challenges due to a lack of funding. They have been unable to pay rent for their offices and salaries for their employees. As a result, they have not been able to provide any work performance reports to the regulatory body for the past three years.
