EZEMA party questions Ethiopian PM’s decision to suspend military operation

An Ethiopian political party has released a statement raising questions about Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmad’s decision to suspend military operations in Tigray. Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice (EZEMA) is part of Ethiopian Federal Cabinet. Professor Berhanu Nega, head of EZEMA, is working as Ethiopian Federal Ministers of Education. The party issued a statement few hours ago.

EZEMA has made three points in the statement. It says that Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) must be completely defeated. If the party is demanding complete defeat of TPLF and OLA, it implies that the party is against suspension of military operation.

Secondly EZEMA is calling upon Ethiopian Federal Government to be clear and transparent about upcoming National Dialogue. Ethiopian government is going to start inclusive national political dialogue in coming days. How much inclusive it would be, remains to be seen.

Lastly the party urges Ethiopian government to ensure that no attacks happen on Ethiopian military in future. Here EZEMA seems to be referring to attack by TPLF members on Northern Command of Ethiopian Federal National Force at the start of November 2020.

Professor Berhanu Nega’s EZEMA party has not completely rejected PM Abiy Ahmad’s suspension of military operations into Tigray in this statement. But the points made in the statement indicate that EZEMA is not fully onboard with Ethiopian government regarding recent developments.
