The Information and Network Security Administration (INSA) Ethiopia has warned Ethio Telecom users about phishing attacks. The Cyber Security Agency in a statement said that messages like “Ethio-Telecom’s free data reward for all old SIM card users” are being sent to Ethio Telecom users. The messages are a form of phishing attacks. INSA asked Ethio Telecom users to ignore and report these messages.
The attackers lure mobile phone users by claiming that 10 GB, 20 GB & 50G free data is available on old sims. They shared a link. The link, if opened by the mobile users, could share user’s sensitive data with hackers.
INSA has urged the community to know that no rewards are being offered by Ethio Telecom and mobile phone users should not open the link shared by cyber attackers.
Such fraudulent activities occur widely during the festive season. Ethiopian are celebrating Meskel today. After a week, they will celebrate Irreecha.
