The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority announced the exports figures for the previous fiscal year. They reported that Ethiopia shipped out 298,500 tons of coffee, generating a substantial $1.43 billion in revenue.
During a press conference, the Authority’s Director General, Dr. Adugna Debela, highlighted a significant increase in coffee production compared to the same period last year. Specifically, he stated that Ethiopia produced 50,000 tons more coffee this year. Notably, the Director General revealed that 90% of this increased output was achieved through direct marketing channels.
Furthermore, Dr. Debela shared an exceptional performance in June alone. He disclosed that Ethiopian coffee exports earned $218 million by exporting 46,000 tons of coffee to the global market that month.
Interestingly, last week, Ethiopian coffee exporters reported clashing with producers due to their failure to pay for the coffee they buy on time. Abera Mandefro, a coffee supplier, explained that they receive coffee from producers and deliver it to exporters. However, the exporters have not been making timely payments to the suppliers.
