Today, Ethiopian Airlines announced that they have reduced the shipping fee for coffee products sent to Asia and the Middle East. Ethiopian Airlines offered $1.5 per kilogram discount on cargo services for the coffee products.
The motive of the cargo logistics services of Ethiopian Airlines is to encourage coffee exporters and promote Ethiopian coffee to the world. At the start of this month, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority published details of coffee exports. Ethiopia earned $835.23 million from exporting coffee in the first nine months of the 2016 fiscal year by exporting 174,596 tons of coffee, which is higher than last year.
Currently, Ethiopian Airlines is offering a discount on cargo services of coffee products from Addis Ababa to Bahrain, Jeddah, Doha, Riyadh, Sharjah, Dubai, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Beijing, Shanghai, Changsha, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong.
Last week, the Coffee and Tea Authority of Ethiopia announced that it aimed to make $500 million from coffee exports in two months of the ongoing fiscal year. Ethiopia aims to export 280 to 300 thousand tons of coffee this fiscal year. In the first 10 months, 209 thousand tons were exported. The plan now is to export 80 thousand tons to reach the $500 million revenue target in May and June.
