The Civil Aviation Authority has suspended all Ethiopian Airlines flights to Eritrea, effective September 30, 2024, due to ongoing operational concerns. This decision impacts travelers with upcoming plans to visit Eritrea via Ethiopian Airlines.
The suspension comes after persistent issues plaguing Ethiopian Airlines’ services. Passengers have reported frequent problems with luggage handling, including theft, damage, and loss. Many have experienced significant delays and difficulties obtaining proper compensation. Additionally, unexplained price increases and other service irregularities have raised concerns among travelers and aviation authorities alike.
Despite numerous attempts to address these issues, Ethiopian Airlines has not implemented satisfactory solutions. The Civil Aviation Authority now deems this suspension necessary to protect passengers and maintain air travel standards.
In response to this, Ethiopian Airlines shared a statement stating that “Ethiopian Airlines has received a notice from the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority through a letter dated July 21, 2024, indicating the suspension of all Ethiopian Airlines flights to Eritrea, effective September 30, 2024. The specific reasons for this suspension have not been disclosed to us. Ethiopian Airlines is currently seeking clarification from the Eritrean Civil Aviation Authority and is committed to resolving any issues amicably and promptly.”
