Ethiopian Airlines has received a ban on landing in Puntland, which affects all its flights. The Somali federal government opposes this ban, citing ongoing tensions with Puntland’s administration. In response to the conflict, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority has closed Bosaso Airport in Puntland, effective immediately.
Security forces of Puntland have imposed a ban and warned Ethiopian Airlines that they no longer control the management and security of Bosaso Airport. Despite these warnings, Ethiopian Airlines and Daallo Airlines continued their flights, prompting the Somali Civil Aviation Authority to prohibit them from landing in Bosaso.
Political analysts believe that the recent curfew has escalated the political discord between Somalia and Puntland. With the airport now closed, many passengers traveling to the UK are affected, and authorities have stated that it will remain shut until further notice.
Last week, Ethiopian Airlines has put a temporary hold on its flights to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport of Nairobi. The airline made this announcement on social media platforms. They cited an ongoing staff strike in Nairobi as the reason for disrupting flights to and from the city.
