Ethiopia generated over $196 million in August 2024 from coffee export. The country sold 42,322 tons of coffee to the international market, setting a new record. Dr. Adugna Debela, the director general of the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, reported a significant increase in revenue of 143% and 165% in volume compared to previous periods.
Between July and August, Ethiopia exported a total of 82,853 tons of coffee. This resulted in $377 million in revenue. Compared to the same two months last year, this represents an increase of 32,925 tons (66%) and $110 million (41%), according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.
Moreover, in the month of July 2024, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority announced the export figures for the previous fiscal year. They reported that Ethiopia export 298,500 tons of coffee, generating a substantial $1.43 billion in revenue. During a press conference, the Authority’s Director General, Dr. Adugna Debela, highlighted a significant increase in coffee production compared to the same period last year.
