Ethiopian Foreign Ministry says that an international news outlet, CNN, is planning another fake news story on alleged genocide in Tigray. According to the statement issued, in August 2021, CNN made fake claims that Tigrayans were being murdered and their dead bodies thrown into the Tekeze River. The claims were made during USAID chief Samantha Power’s visit to Sudan, in order to pressurise the Ethiopian government.
The Ethiopian government says that once again CNN is working to misinform viewers through another fake genocide story.
Since the start of the Tigray war in November 2020, the Ethiopian government has been accusing CNN and other news outlets of supporting the Tigray People’s Liberation Front. The Ethiopian government is backing the #NoMore social media and street campaign against the alleged biased narrative being shared by international media about the ongoing Ethiopian conflict. Ethiopian diaspora in the US held large rallies last month against alleged biased media coverage of the Ethiopia Tigray war.
