Ethiopia has earned the highest revenue in history from exporting coffee. It has been announced by the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority.
The Coffee and Tea Authority announced that Ethiopia earned $1.43 billion foreign currency from coffee exports last year. Around 300,000 tons of the Ethiopian coffee were sold in world market.
Ethiopia, regarded as the origin of Arabica coffee, is one of Africa’s largest producers and exporters of the commodity. Coffee production is seen as the backbone of the country’s agriculture-led economy.
The main reason behind the increased coffee export from Ethiopia is the recurrent drought and the frost that occurred in parts of Coffee Arabica producing areas of South America which affected the volume and quality of coffee arabica production.
