Senior executives from the Ethiopian Investment Commission visited the Eastern Industrial Zone in Dukem and claimed an increase in foreign investment in Ethiopia. Zeleke Temesgen, the Deputy Commissioner, reported an increase in foreign investment due to recent reforms introduced in Ethiopia. The Eastern Industry Zone now hosts 153 companies, with 95% owned by Chinese investors. Zeleke Temesgen noted that private industrial parks have also emerged in the area.
He mentioned that over 300 Chinese projects are currently active in Ethiopia, creating jobs for more than 325,000 Ethiopians. Zeleke Temesgen emphasized the transfer of knowledge and technology. The commission aims to create a favorable investment climate for foreign investors.
Deputy Commissioner Dagato Kumbe reported a 12% rise in foreign direct investment after recent macroeconomic updates. In the past three months, the commission received 72 investment requests and approved 12 of them. Dagato stated that they are actively addressing investor concerns and supporting investment initiatives.
