It has been announced that diplomatic and consular missions in Ethiopia will now import only electric vehicles.
This week, the diplomatic and consular missions in Addis Ababa, regional and international organizations have were informed by the Ethiopian government that they will only import electric vehicles. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has written a letter to diplomatic missions and international organizations based in Addis Ababa
All those who have diplomatic rights are required to import only electric vehicles according to the directive to import vehicles duty-free, the ministry informed in a letter.
In this letter distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is mentioned that the government has reached this decision with the aim of curbing carbon emissions and reducing fuel consumption in the country. Ethiopia earlier this year banned import of all non electric vehicles.
