The authorities of Ethiopia asked drivers to renew their licenses starting tomorrow, October 10, 2024. This requirement applies to all licenses except new ones and those held by individuals over 55. The Addis Ababa Driver and Vehicle Licensing and Inspection Authority states that drivers need to renew their licenses every four years in Ethiopia.
This decision addresses concerns about governance and fairness raised over the past six years regarding the two-year and four-year renewal options. As a result, all licenses, except for new ones and those belonging to seniors, will expire tomorrow.
Moreover, many people believe that the fee for replacing a lost driver’s license should be significantly reduced. A lower fee would make it more accessible for individuals to obtain a replacement without facing financial hardship.
