Ethio Telecom, the state-owned telecommunications company in Ethiopia, shared the revenue details. Ethio Telecom announced that it earned 93.7 billion birr in the 2016 fiscal year. This figure represents a 21% increase compared to the previous fiscal year, exceeding the planned revenue by 3.6%.
The CEO of Ethio Telecom, Frehiwot Tamiru, stated that 39.4% of the revenue was from voice services, while 27.7% came from data and internet services. The company’s total customer base reached 78.3 million, with 75.6 million mobile voice subscribers and 40.4 million mobile internet users, an 8.9% increase from the previous year.
Ethio Telecom’s mobile financial service, known as Telebir, had 47.55 million subscribers, and the company processed 81 trillion electronic money transfers during the fiscal year, for a total of 2.55 trillion electronic money transfers since the service began.
