On the morning of Friday, August 16, 2024, airport staff spotted a fire in one of the pieces of luggage being transported on a cart to a plane preparing to fly from Mumbai to Addis Ababa in flight ET641. The fire broke out while the cart was moving from the ramp to the aircraft.
Security personnel and firefighters at Mumbai Airport quickly identified the burning bag and extinguished the flames. After conducting additional security checks and confirming that no further risks remained, they cleared the aircraft for takeoff.
The Mumbai Airport authorities and relevant entities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire on Mumbai-Addis Ababa flight ET641. They will provide updates as more information becomes available.
