Anthony Blinken, US Secretary of State, is due to visit 3 African countries next week. He is going to visit Kenya, Senegal, and Nigeria. This is Blinken’s 1st Africa visit. Ethiopia-Tigray conflict is likely to come under discussion in this visit. Kenya has been trying to bring warring Ethiopian parties together.
African Union mediator, Olusegun Obasanjo, and US envoy to the Horn of Africa, Jeffery Feltman, have visited Kenya within the last week. Interestingly Presidents of the 3 countries, Kenya, Senegal, and Nigeria attended Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmad’s inauguration ceremony held in Addis Ababa last month.
Could this Blinken’s visit be a breakthrough in Africa’s worst humanitarian crisis? Ethiopia’s Tigray conflict started a year ago and it has cost thousands of lives so far.
