Amhara News Today: A grenade attack was carried out on Saturday targeting a city market in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. This is the 2nd attack on civilians in the Amhara region within the last 72 hours.
On Saturday morning, Finote Selam City Market was hit in a grenade attack, Shops were open and people were shopping when unknown attackers threw hand grenades and fled. More than 30 people were injured in this attack, said Amhara regional government in a statement today. Around 10 were seriously injured.
The regional government and Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) blamed Fano militia fighters for this attack. Fano fighters have been fighting regional and security forces since last year when the government decided to disarm all militias in the Amhara region.
Fano groups denied having carried out the attack and blamed government and military. They accused the government of working on an agenda to create divisions between Fano and Amhara people.
Finote Selam city is situated in West Gojjam zone of the Amhara region. The city witnessed two attacks on civilians in the last 3 days. On Thursday, hand grenades were thrown at Damot public school in Finote Selam, leaving more than 20 students injured. On Thursday too, Fano and military accused each other. Read more….
